First things first..
Hello, bloggers and future educators! My name is Daphne Huggins, welcome to daphneBLOGgins. I am a teacher candidate studying for my Middle Level Mathematics and Science teaching license from the University of Akron. I will also gain a Reading endorsement after graduation. I am the Chief Justice for the Associated Student Government at my college and I also hold the position of President in the International Teachers Honors Society, Pi Lambda Theta. My teaching style is fun and exciting; I love to engage my students in meaningful learning! My future classroom will be student-centered and student-driven. I always want to provide my students with the biggest chance of success. Please read my professional blog to gain some new insight on technology and education.
If you're still dying to know a little more about me, here it goes! I come from a small town in south east Ohio called Steubenville. We sit right on the river, literally a small step to West Virginia. My name is different, I do not know anyone else with the name Daphne. Even more funny is that in Greek, my name means "Laurel branch" and coincidentally, my mother's name is Laurel. She was pretty nifty with that one. I live in an apartment in Akron now with my fiance, my cat, my chinchilla, and my gerbil. Don't tell my landlord about the latter two, I've been hiding them here for a while. You can always find me busy on campus due to my millions of student organizations that I'm involved in and my 2 jobs on campus as well. I plan on taking 20 credits in the fall of 2011 so chances are, I'll basically be living in Zook Hall for the next 4 months.
I like to think that I am a very approachable, fun human being on this earth. I like to make new friends and I enjoy keeping up with my social networking to stay in touch with old or faraway friends. Especially living 2 hours away, it is nice to still Skype with some hometown buddies or comment on my mom's Facebook status. I also love to run and work out. Thanks to the rec, I should be in tip top shape by the time of my wedding. I also like to buy unnecessary items just for the thrill of shopping. I also like to think that I'm a funny gal. I always laugh at my own jokes, even if they aren't funny.
I've had my share of ups and downs over my life but becoming a teacher has made me become more appreciative of my own life and the benefits it has to offer. Teaching gives my life meaning. I truly appreciate knowledge and learning and I will always continue to learn until my dying day. When will you stop learning?
